“It will not start” describes several different states. The starter may not move the engine at all, or it may turn the engine normally while combustion never begins. Calling the state correctly is the first useful diagnostic step.
What cranking sounds like
Normal cranking is a repeated engine-rotation sound. Slow cranking, a single click, repeated clicks and silence are different observations. None of them proves a particular failed component by itself, but each changes what should be checked next.

The no-crank path
